What is a VESDA System?
VESDA (Very Early Smoke Detection Apparatus) systems are advanced smoke detection technologies that provide earliest possible warning of a potential fire hazard. Unlike traditional smoke detectors, VESDA systems continuously sample air through a network of pipes and analyze it for the presence of smoke particles using a laser-based detection chamber. How Does VESDA Work?
VESDA detectors use aspirating smoke detection (ASD) technology. A fan draws air from the protected environment through a system of pipes into a detection chamber. The air is analyzed for microscopic particles of combustion by a laser-based sensor, providing four alarm thresholds – Alert, Action, Fire 1, and Fire 2 – to ensure early and precise alerts for different stages of smoke development.
